Kogarah is a suburb of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, with about 12,700 inhabitants.

Geography

The district is located north of Kogarah Bay, 14 kilometers southwest of the central business district of Sydney and west of Botany Bay. It is the seat of the administrative area Kogarah Council, is to some extent also in Rockdale City.

Structures

Buildings of interest are the Kogarah School of the Arts in the Bowns Road, the Kogarah Kogarah Fire Station and the Courthouse on Montgomery Street, and Kogarah Hotel on Princes Highway. Important churches are the Greek Orthodox Christian Church, the Kogarah Soldiers ' Memorial Presbyterian Church, St Patrick's Catholic Church, St Paul's Anglican Church and the Grace Church Kogarah.

The Kogarah Town Centre is the largest shopping center in the city. The Oki Jubilee Stadium ( also Jubilee Oval or Kogarah Oval ) on the Princes Highway is the home of the St George Illawarra rugby team Dragons. The stadium has a capacity for 20,541 spectators (2006). Near the Kingsford Smith Airport in Sydney suburb of Arncliffe is Kogarah Golf Club.

Regular events

The most popular events are the annual Kogarah Street Fair and Charity Bed Race. Several teams lead to Kogarahs main street, Railway Parade, races on hospital beds by. The teams consist of five persons, mostly of staff from the local shops in the city.

The guidelines state that a member of the team must be in a reclining position on the bed. The beds are usually decorated with the colors or the badge of the business, which is sponsoring the bed. The event for charity purposes. All profits of the race go to the St George Hospital.

Traffic

The Kogarah Railway Station is located on the Illawarra Line and is part of the CityRail network. The railway company operates in and around Sydney an extensive network of S-Bahn, regional and intercity lines. The Illawarra Line runs from Bondi Junction via Central, Sydenham, Wolli Creek and Sutherland to Cronulla or Waterfall.

There are bus connections to Brighton -le -Sands, Monterey, Ramsgate Beach, Sans Souci. By 1937 a steam tram sailed the route between Kogarah and Sans Souci via Rocky Point Road. Between July 3, 1937 and August 29, 1959 wrong trolley buses on the route. These were then replaced by diesel-powered buses.
