Kölnischer Kunstverein

The Cologne Art Association is a non-profit and altrechtlicher club based in Cologne, which is dedicated to the dissemination of contemporary art. It was founded in 1839 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of the contemporary art exhibition in Germany. He is a member of the Association of German art associations ( ADKV ).

Foundation

On April 7, 1839, statutes were approved by the Upper president of the Prussian Rhine Province, and thus founded the Art Association. The founding members were citizens of Cologne, including Everhard von Groote as the first president of the association, Johann Maria Farina, inventor of Eau de Cologne and the city council Matthias Joseph de Noël. His first seat was the new institution in Wallrafianum in the potion lane 7 in the first year were counted over 1,300 members. From Groote of the Association was elected the first president, he remained for ten years in this office. From April to September 1839, the first exhibition in Gurzenich with European art took place, with over 500 works, many of which were for sale, issued. Since then, the Kunstverein in Cologne is embedded in the cultural life of the city.

1914-1933

The program in the first half of the 20th century included overview shows how the art shown at regular intervals 1916-1932 from Cologne privately owned, and in 1917, 1920 and 1922 19th Century Art. 1925 was to see a show on Impressionism and another under the title of Modern Art.

An individual exhibitions of the CISO was in the year 1914 show works by Vincent van Gogh. 1915 was followed by Modern Prints at which were to be seen among other works by Käthe Kollwitz and Lovis Corinth. The New Munich Secession in 1916, Erich Heckel 1917 presented in an exhibition. 1918 showed the CISO The Young Rhineland, 1919 an exhibition entitled The Power, among others with Hanns Bolz, Max Ernst and Otto Freundlich and the Society of Arts with Heinrich Maria Davringhausen, Heinrich and Heinrich Nauen Campendonck. 1923 was an exhibition of Klee, Feininger, Nolde and Dix, 1924 instead of another with the Cologne Dada, represented by Hoerle, Jansen and Seiwert. 1931 was the collection Mother Ey are shown. Foreign art was rarely seen and was limited to overview exhibitions such as Belgian Art in 1929, Georgian Art in 1930 and Danish Art 1932.

Presence

The Cologne Art Association promotes the exhibition of contemporary art institution. Since the 1970s, he presents current international artistic developments; so many artists have organized their first institutional exhibition in the rooms of the club. Since 2003, the art association is housed "The Bridge " at the Hahn Street in the building. The house was built in the years 1949/50, from Cologne architect Wilhelm Riphahn with the requirement to establish a symbolic place of dialogue in the war-torn city. The Kunstverein in Cologne is mainly financed by the membership fees of approximately 1600 members (as of 2009 ), but also through public and private grants.

Prices and promotions

In 2005, the Kunstverein was awarded prize as a " catalyst for Contemporary Art" Art Frankfurt, be awarded the most dedicated and innovative art associations. The Art and Culture Foundation of Sparda Bank West promoted the Cologne Kunstverein in 2009 with 50,000 euros in recognition of the wide-ranging program. In addition, the Kunstverein in Cologne 2010, awarded by the NRW Art Foundation Jump- price, the outstanding annual programs of art associations in North Rhine -Westphalia received distinguished.

1997-2008, the club awarded in collaboration with the Cologne Central Health Central Art Prize. The prize enabled the excellent winners half year stay in Cologne and the realization of a new artistic project with associated solo exhibition. The price was endowed with 75,000 euros.

2010 was awarded the Art Association, endowed with 8000 Euro price of labor of German art associations " for its outstanding exhibition practice and mediation activity ." Since 2011, the RheinEnergieStiftung Kultur promotes art education project Platform 9 3/4, the school children in elementary, secondary and secondary schools in Cologne as part of the afternoon program to open full-day schools provides the opportunity to learn art as a way of self expression.
