Koto (Band)

Koto is an Italian Synthdance Group, which produces mainly instrumental music. The group was founded in the early 1980s by the producers Anfrando Maiola and Stefano Cundari.

History

The group name arises from an Asian instrument, the founders generally implemented initially on Asian synthesizer sounds in the then modern dance gown. Therefore, the duo was also in the category of Italo Disco. Their first vinyl disc was released in 1982 in Italy on the label Cellophane Record titled Chinese Revenge, which shortly thereafter was also the first release and thus the birth of the label Memory Records. After some successes with titles such as Japanese Wargame, Dragon's Legend, Jabdah and visitors, it was silent again to the group.

In 1989, the German record label ZYX Music bought the rights of Memory Records, including the name and music rights of Koto. They commissioned the Dutch laser dance producers Michiel van re-record some of the old Koto tracks the Kuy and mix down. In 1990 Anfrando Maiola attempted a comeback with Champion's Cue. However, the single did not bring the desired success as before. The co-founder Stefano Cundari died in 1990 from cancer. With a new single in 1990 and also a new album in 1992, each produced by Michiel van der Kuy, the sound of the tracks was spacey a lot. The single from the Mind Machine included vocal elements from the sci-fi hit movie Total Recall - Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger. After no more could be gained wide popularity with this album, initially it was decided to further new productions withdraw. During this time, several older vinyl classics were brought on CD under the ZYX -Music- sub label Golden Dance Classics (GDC ) new to the market. Only in the new millennium, Koto reported under founder Anfrando Maiola back with brand new tracks back, true to the motto Koto Is Still Alive. Maiola had now can regain the rights to the group name. The musical style of Koto, however, was adapted to the new Trance and Techno age. In 2003, the currently last album Electronic Hits, 2009, the last single Strange Skies was released.
