Kouffo Department
Couffo is a department of Benin, with its capital Dogbo - Tota. The city was not yet officially made the capital, but performs all the functions of capital.
Geography
The Department is located in the southwest of the country, bordered to the west by Togo, on the east by the department of Zou, on the south by the department of Mono and to the southeast by the department of Atlantique.
Population
At the last census in 2002 counted 524 586 inhabitants the department.
Ethnic groups
The Adja form the overwhelming majority with 88.4 % share of the population. The only significant minority are the Fon.
Religions
The vast majority of 63.1 % of the population is committed to the voodoo cult. Christianity with 24.8% forms a large minority ( of which approximately 55 % trailers African Independent Churches and only 24 % are Catholics ). Islam does not matter with 0.7 % share of the population.
History
Couffo formed in 1999 through the separation of the Department of mono.
