Figures, data and facts

Shaping

The outer shell is made of glazed ceramic plates in six different shades of red and a shade of green. " Kuggen " is to minimize around the ratio of outer mantle to the surface. Each floor is slightly larger than the underlying. Therefore, the building grows with each floor. A movable sun visor follows the sun and darkened the windows in the top two floors. (The other buildings in the area cast shadows on the lower floors. )

Green Building

Kuggen uses four measures for Green Building: adaptable ventilation and lighting systems, interactive heating and cooling, and effective use of daylight. The ceramic plates on the façade were chosen for their longevity. The windows are triangular and allow the natural light to penetrate deep into the building and at the same time only a small (30%) take part of the wall surface. The result is a building which aims at 60 kW/Jahr/m2 energy consumption. This is what is widely expected under the green buildings. However, there is high demands on comfort accessible ( temperatures in the offices range between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius).
