Kumiho

A Kumiho (literally: Nine Tail Fox) is a Korean mythical creature and as it were a Korean version of the Chinese Huli jīng (Ch狐狸精) and the Japanese Kitsune. It is mostly female and vicious. While the other fox spirits sometimes have sukkubushafte trains Kumiho is often an ogress, who is also a temptress. The popular belief it requires a certain number of human hearts or livers in order to gain a human soul.

A number of Kumiho stories can be found in 한국 구비 문학 대계 ( Compendium of Korean Oral Literature ). Very famous is the fairy tale " The Fox Sister ".

What is striking is their resemblance to those known from the Dakinis Hinduism and Buddhism in India, which suck the very life essence of humans.
