L'Haÿ-les-Roses

L' Haÿ -les -Roses is a French town with 30 574 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) on the outskirts of Paris.

The city is a sub - prefecture of the department of Val -de- Marne and the seat of the arrondissement L' Haÿ -les -Roses. The city is part of the communauté d' agglomà Val de Bièvre.

The city has six neighborhoods ( quartiers ). These are Lallier -Bicêtre, Petit- Robinson, Vallée- aux- Renard, Jardin Parisien, Blondeaux and Centre.

Geographical Location

The town is located 8.5 km south of Paris city center.

History

The place was the Great 798 mentioned in a charter of Charles as Laiacum or Lagiacum. It is believed that the name goes back to an earlier Gallo-Roman landowner and is to be interpreted with " possession of Lagius ". Later the town was known Laï, Lay then Lahy and then until the 20th century, L' Haÿ ( further to the rare letters " Ÿ ").

In the 13th century, possessed in Bourg Saint -Marcel on the outskirts of Paris is moved Collegiate St. Marcel fiefs and Manus mortua goods in Laï. In 1238 the canons laid off there, in Ivry and Theodosim ( Thiais ) a total of 150 subjects or mani and their wives, children and other descendants from serfdom.

1899 designed Gravereaux Jules ( 1844-1916 ), a founder of the department store "Bon Marché ", here the rose Roseraie du Val -de- Marne. The rose garden was known nationally and therefore the city in May 1914 in honor of the famous Rosarium officially in L' Haÿ -les -Roses ( " L' Haÿ - the - roses " ) has been renamed.

Traffic

The city lies on the Autoroute A6 (E15 ), which runs from Paris to Lyon. A few miles south is the international airport Paris -Orly.

The nearest railway station of the suburban railway Réseau express régional d' Île -de- France is located in the neighboring village of Bourg- la -Reine ( RER B) about 1.7 km west from L' Haÿ -les -Roses. The city itself has no railway station.
