La Marque is a city in Galveston County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located in southeast Texas just off Interstate 45, Highway 45 and the Farm Roads 519, 1765 and 2004, 20 km northwest of Galveston and the Gulf of Mexico. The town has a total area of 36.9 km ², of which 0.1 km ² water surface.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 13,682 people in 5,237 households and 3,713 families. The population density was 371.5 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 55.84 % White, 34.69 % African American, 0.46 % Native American, 0.47 % Asian, 0.03 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 6.21 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 2.31% were of mixed descent, and 15.43 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 5,237 households, 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 48.3 % were married couples living together. 17.2% were single mothers and 29.1% were non-families. 24.7 % of all households were single-person households, and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size amounted to 3.06.

25.7 % of the population were under 18 years old, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 26.2% 25-44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.6 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 90.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 86.9 males.

The median income for a household was $ 34,841, and the median income for a family $ 39,081. Males had a median income of $ 32,099 versus $ 27,292 for females.
