La Puebla de Montalbán

La Puebla de Montalbán is a town in the autonomous community of Castile -La Mancha ( Spain) and belongs to the province of Toledo. It is situated on the banks of the Rio Tajo. It is one of the privileged places around Torrijos.

History

The town of La Puebla de Montalbán belonged to the Order of the Knights Templar, which had been the village of Alfonso VII. Later it was owned by Don Álvaro de Luna and the possession of his wife Juana Pimentel after his death, which La Triste Condesa ( the sad Countess ) was called. Later, the city was then owned by Juan Pacheco, the Count of Villena. At present it belongs to the Duchy of Osasuna.

Attractions

It is a beautiful town with an exceptional Plaza Mayor. Other sights include the Old Town Hall, the Palace of the Duke of Osasuna in the 15th century and the church of La Puebla de Montalbán. The pedestrian zone, La soledad is very attractive for tourists and peppered with several bars, cafes and discos. The landmark of the city is the Torre de San Miguel, which was constructed in 1575 by Cristóbal Ortiz.

Environment

The environment is characterized by the first foothills of the Montes de Toledo. It is a town with many great neighborhoods, a very fertile banks of the Rio Tajo and an old Roman bridge over this river. The shore is used primarily for agricultural use. Here, both apricots and peaches, for the quality of the village is well known, terraced. Also, the reservoir, which is located between La Puebla de Montalban and the neighboring village of El Carpio de Tajo, is worth a visit and offers a magnificent view over the countryside.

Festivals

Cristo de La Caridad:

Every year on July 15 to be aligned in La Puebla de Montalbán festivals in honor of the patron saint Holy Christ de la Caridad. The festivals are usually distributed to seven days and took place back in July, 1598.

The program of festivities is determined by many religious and cultural events. In the first place, however, is the bull run, which takes place several times a day during the festival week and attracts dozens of people. In addition, each year in which bullfights take place up in the middle of the city an arena.
