La Verrerie

La Verrerie (? Freiburg Patois La Vèryére / i ) is a municipality in the district Veveyse ( German: Vivisbachbezirk ) of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It was formed on 1 January 2004 by the merger of the previously independent municipalities Le Cret, Grattavache and Progens. The seat of the municipality is located in Le Cret.

Geography

La Verrerie is located 11 km west-southwest of Bulle ( straight line ). The municipality covers the undulating high land in the headwaters of the Mionna, the southernmost tip of Freiburg Central Plateau, near the edge of the Alps.

The area of ​​13.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molasseplateaus north of the upper course of the Broye, in the foothills. The communal land extends from the Talniederung Broye northward over the gently rolling uplands of the Haute- Veveyse with the headwaters of the Mionna, the forest height Bois de Ban (932 m above sea level. M. ), the projected nature moor sink La Mosse d' en Bas up on the ridge of Le Cret, on 933 m above sea level. M. the highest point of La Verrerie is achieved. Population

With 1136 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) La Verrerie one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the 95.2 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 1.6 % and 1.0 % speak German portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of La Verrerie amounted in 1900 to 1,054 inhabitants. After the population had risen to 1910 to 1143 people by 1970 a marked decline by over 40% to 666 inhabitants was registered. Since then, a population increase was recorded again, which increased particularly since the 1990s.

Economy

La Verrerie was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. During the 19th century, the area was dominated by the glassworks of Semsales, which was located in the district of La Verrerie. It ceased its activities in 1914. In the marshes of Le Cret earlier peat was cut.

Even today, animal husbandry and dairying have an important role in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including companies in the wood processing, cheese production and construction. Traffic

History

The municipality of La Verrerie been inhabited since the Roman era. In the Middle Ages had the Lords of Oron and Kastlanei Rue goods and lands in the area.
