La Villeneuve- Bellenoye -et -la- Maize is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Villeneuve- Bellenoye -et -la- Maize is at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, 2.5 km north-west of Saulx and about 12 km north- northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in the Basin of Saulx, in the valley of the Ruisseau du Bâtard, west of the river of Durgeon.

The area of ​​9.21 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Saulx. From north to south the area is crossed by the Talniederung the Ruisseau du Bâtard, which provides for drainage to Durgeon. This sections forms the eastern boundary. In some places the area ranges on the plateau east of the Durgeon. The Alluvialniederung of Durgeon is on average 235 m and has a maximum width of 1.5 kilometers wide.

Is flanked by a lowland plateau, which is divided by the little valley from different streams. Agricultural land use predominates here. To the southwest, the municipality's area extends over the valley of the Ruisseau des Grands Prés to the forested hills of Bois des Charmes ( 283 m) and Bois de Chevaney. With a narrow edge of the municipality floor ranges northward over the slowly rising slope of the Bois de Montcharmon to the level of Homme Dessus. With 396 m find the highest mountains of La Villeneuve- Bellenoye -et -la- Maize is achieved. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). Neighboring communities of La Villeneuve- Bellenoye -et -la- Maize are Neurey -en- Vaux and Meurcourt in the north, Mailleroncourt- Charette and Saulx in the east, Colombier in the south and Vellefrie and Vilory in the West.

History

The municipal area was settled very early. Through the area led the Roman Road from Besancon to Luxeuil. Wall foundations of a Gallo- Roman estate were discovered. In the Middle Ages La Villeneuve belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The Counts of Burgundy gave the local rule Étienne d' Oiselay, who came from a side branch. Already in 1339 the inhabitants were granted certain liberties. Also, the Knights Templar had possession of La Villedieu in the field. Together with the Franche -Comté La Villeneuve came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To a field change occurred in 1807, when the hamlet Bellenoye and La Maize were (then known as the municipality of La Maize -et- Bellenoye ) associated with La Villeneuve. Today La Villeneuve- Bellenoye -et -la- Maize is a member of the comprehensive six localities municipal association Communauté de communes of Six Villages.

Attractions

The Village Church of La Villeneuve was built from 1778 to 1783 and has furniture and paintings from the 18th century. The Mairie ( Town Hall) is housed in a former manor chapel, which was built in the late 15th century. Also worth seeing is the fountain in the village square.

Population

With 131 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) La Villeneuve- Bellenoye -et -la- Maize is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 314 persons were still counted ), a population growth was observed particularly during the 1980s again. Since then is again a downward trend recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

La Villeneuve- Bellenoye -et -la- Maize was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. The water power of the streams was formerly used for the operation of several mills. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Saulx after Flagy. Further road links exist with Colombier, Vilory and Mailleroncourt- Charette.
