Ladislav Novák

Ladislav Novák ( born December 5, 1931 in Louny, † 21 March, 2011 Ostředek, Czech Republic) was a Czechoslovakian football player and coach of Czech origin. He was considered technically good, aerially strong left-back.

Playing career

Ladislav Novák began playing football at SK Louny, 1950, he moved to Technomat Teplice. 1952, the defender of ATK Prague ( 1956 Dukla ) was obliged, for whom he played until 1966. With Dukla Novák was eight times Czechoslovak champion and twice Cup winners. He played 309 first division matches. From 1966 to 1968 he played for LIAZ Jablonec and then ended his career.

Between 1952 and 1966, Novák played 75 times for the Czechoslovakian national team and scored a goal here. In 71 of these 75 games, he was team captain, that is until today the Czech record. He participated in the 1954 World Cup, in 1958 and 1962, moreover, at the European Championships in 1960.

Novák was in 1968 in the World XI.

Coaching career

From 1968 to 1970 and again 1972-1974 he worked as a coach at LIAZ Jablonec. From April 1971 to July 1972, he coached in 15 games along with Ladislav Kacani the Czechoslovakian national team. Then he coached until 1977 KSC Lokeren. His next stop was from 1977 to 1979 the Royal Antwerp FC. In the 1979/80 season he coached the team from Germinal Beerschot. In 1980, he returned as coach to his former club Dukla Prague and won the championship in 1982 and 1981 and in 1983 the trophy. From 1986 to 1988 he worked as a coach at KSK Beveren.
