Lake Charles Ice Pirates

The Lake Charles Ice Pirates were an American ice hockey team from Lake Charles, Louisiana. The team played from 1997 to 2001 in the Western Professional Hockey League.

History

The Lake Charles Ice Pirates were founded in 1997 as a franchise of the Western Professional Hockey League. In this the team was one of six founding members. In its first season, the 1997/98 season the team was supervised, among others by former NHL player Dennis Maruk, the Canadians again as player-coach himself stood on the ice in some games. Their most successful season graduated from the team in the 1998/1999 season, as they in the playoffs for the President's Cup after victories over Central Texas Stampede and Corpus Christi IceRays only in the third round at eventual champions Shreveport Mudbugs with 1:4 victories in the Best - of-seven series failed.

When the WPHL was disbanded following the 2000/ 01 season, the Lake Charles Ice Pirates were only was one of four teams that did not change in the Central Hockey League, but disbanded instead.
