Lake Vodlozero

The Wodlosero (Russian Водлозеро, Finnish Vodlajärvi ) is a lake in the southeast of the Russian Republic of Karelia in Rajon Pudosch.

The lake lies in the catchment of Lake Onega. The water area is 322 km ². Including the islands total area is 370 km ². In the lake there are more than 190 islands. The water level can vary by up to 2 m. It is located at 136 m altitude, has a length of 36 km and a maximum width of 16 km. The maximum depth is 16 m, the average depth is 3.1 m. The water temperatures reach 22-25 ° C in summer Between November and early May, the lake is covered by an ice sheet.

The catchment area of the lake covers 5280 km ². Important tributary is the Ileksa. There are two drains on its eastern shore. The north running Sukhaia Wodla and south running Wama. The rivers unite east of Wodlosero to Wodla, which flows to Lake Onega first south and then west.

The lake is surrounded by coniferous forests (spruce, pine, larch ) and wetlands.

The Wodlosero is rich in fish. There are, inter alia, following species of fish in the lake: vendace, Coregonus, walleye, bream, ide, burbot and smelt.

Since 1991, the lake is part of the Wodlosero Wodlosero National Park.
