Larry O. Spencer

Larry Oneil Spencer (born 1954 in Washington, DC ) is a General in the United States Air Force ( USAF) since July 27, 2012 Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force ( VCSAF, to German as: Deputy Chief of Staff of the USAF ).

Education and Career

Spencer grew up in Prince George's County, Maryland, where he attended a local high school. In 1979 he completed a degree from the Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and went after one year of training at the Air Force Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, in 1980 to active duty.

During the 1980s he served at various points primarily as accounting officer, such as the Air Force Reserve Command ( AFRC ), Georgia, the headquarters of the USAF at the Pentagon and the 1992 inactivated Military Airlift Command, a former major command of the USAF, based on the Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, where he was responsible for budget and budget issues.

He took his first command in 1990 after a year of visiting the Marine Corps Command and Staff College with the guidance of the 4th Comptroller Squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina. This was followed by command of the 72nd Support Group at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma (1996-98 ), and the 75th Air Base Wing at Hill Air Force Base, Utah (1998 /99), followed by a nearly four -year military service at Headquarters of the Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, where he in turn was responsible for accounting.

Spencer's further education includes, among other Master's degrees in Business Management from Webster University (1987 ) and Resource Strategy from the National Defense University (1994). Larry Spencer is married to Ora Spencer, together they have three children.

Service in the rank of general

In June 2003, Spencer was as Director of Mission Support to the headquarters of the Air Force Materiel Command ( AFMC ) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, transferred and promoted in this role on 1 July 2004 to brigadier general. Then he was from August 2005 to August 2006 Deputy Director of the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker Air Force Base.

From August 2006 to October 2007 served Spencer as Director for Budget Operations and Personnel at the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, then to 2010, ibid from August 2007 with the rank of Major General as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget and promotion to Lieutenant General then from April 2010 to July 2012 as the Director of Force Structure, Resources and assessment in the Joint Chiefs of staff.

11 May 2012 nominated U.S. President Barack Obama Spencer for the succession of Philip M. Breedlove, who in turn command of the U.S. European Command, took over as Deputy Chairman of the General Staff of the USAF. The Senate confirmed the nomination on May 24, Spencer took over the post finally on 27 July of the same year, his promotion to general was part of the command transfer.
