Laujar de Andarax

Láujar de Andarax is a city in the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. It belongs to the province of Almería. The town has 1671 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). Near the river Andarax, which flows into the Mediterranean Sea at Almería stems.

Geographical location

Láujar de Andarax located on the edge of the nature reserve of the Sierra Nevada ( Parque Nacional de Sierra Nevada). The distance to Almería in the east is approximately 60 kilometers by road, the highway, the A 348 runs to Adra on the Mediterranean coast in the south about 40 km to Almeria along the Andarax, partly in its valley.

History

Láujar was once the residence of the Moorish kings.

Attractions

Set between poplar and pine woods place the town hall façade from the 18th century and the Baroque chapel of Nuestra Señora de la Salud are particularly noteworthy.

In about 10 km from the small town of Paterna del Rio, which is known for its iron-and sulfur -containing mineral springs. It has 375 inhabitants.

In about 4 km towards Almería village Fondón is. In 1567 here was the main venue for the Moriskenaufstände Remarkable are the Parish Church with its brick tower in the Mudejar style and built of hewn stone fountain on the market in 1790.
