Lazare Saminsky

Lazare Saminsky (Russian Лазарь Семёнович Саминский / Lasar Semjonowitsch Saminski; * 15 Oktoberjul / October 27 1882greg in Walegozulowo, near Ananjiw, .. † June 30, 1959 in Port Chester / New York ) was a Russian-Jewish composer.

Saminsky studied for a math and philosophy from 1906 to 1910 at the Conservatory of Saint Petersburg in Nikolai Rimsky -Korsakov, Nikolai Tcherepnin and Anatoli Ljadow. On a trip through the Caucasus in 1913, he explored the traditional liturgical music of the Jews.

From 1915 to 1918 he was conductor of the symphony orchestra in Tbilisi and teacher at the conservatory of the city. In 1920 he settled in New York where he worked as a music director at Temple Emanu -El since 1924.

He composed four operas, five symphonies and a symphonic triptych, the orchestral piece by the New World, the cantata The Daughter of Jephthah, a suite for violin and orchestra, sacred works, songs and piano pieces.
