Le Chambon, Ardèche

Le Chambon is a commune with 57 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in Ardèche, in the Rhône -Alpes. Its inhabitants are Chambonnais (it) called.

Geography

The community extends in the center of the Massif Central of the Ardèche, and borders the neighboring municipalities Mariac and Saint- Martial. It is part of the Regional Natural Park of Monts d' Ardèche. The nearest major town is located southeast of Aubenas 25 kilometers away. The river flows through spines the municipality.

History

The municipality was in the Middle Ages under the suzerainty of the rich family Chambon. Only in 1904 the village got the status of an independent community, after they had split from the industrial embossed Saint- Andéol -de- Fourchades.

During the Second World War, the inhabitants of the resident by the Germans demanded surrender Jews resisted - an example of the resistance and the refusal of obedience against better ( ethical ) knowledge.

Culture and sights

The community is home to many historic homes that have been resurfaced for the most part. The church from the 14th century was restored together with the old frescoes in 1970.
