Le Fol (French for The Joker ) is the second studio album by the Norwegian hard rock band Audrey Horne. It first appeared in summer 2007 in Norway and then on March 22, 2008 at the rest of the world via Indie Recordings.

Formation

The album was recorded in a chaotic time for the band. Both the bassist Tom Cato Visnes and keyboardist Herbrand Larsen left the group during the songwriting. At the same time lost its contract with Audrey Horne Tuba Records. Four of the band wrote the material further. Total of twenty songs created during this time. As the producer of the debut album No Hay Banda Joe Barresi was not available, the group decided to record the album themselves.

The recordings took place in Bergen in the Earshot Studios. The album was produced by guitarist Arve Isdal, who also grossed the bass. Guest musicians were Herbrand Larsen, organ, mellotron and keyboards and grossed Olav Iversen, who contributed backing vocals. Herbrand Larsen took over even the mix of the album. The album was mastered Le Fol by Håkan Åkesson. For the song " Threshold", a music video was shot. It was directed by Alex Herron.

Background

The album title Le Fol refers to the same Tarot card. In an interview, explained singer Torkjell Rød that the Joker be a naive, optimistic person who gets involved everywhere without thinking about the consequences.

The lyrics are about love, from a gloomy view. According to guitarist Isdal it comes to broken relationships, alcohol abuse, fights, drugs and anger. Rød singer picked up the inspiration to do so by his main profession as a tattoo artist.

In the Last Call song Rød criticized the gothic and emo - scene, which was collected by profiteering. Wish You Hell is about class reunions. In an interview Rød explained that he again met many people at a class reunion, which he really did not want to see her again. In So Long, Euphoria is about a located at the end of relationship in which neither partner has the courage to speak, that a separation would be better for both.

Reception

The album received by the press good to very good reviews. Rock-Hard - chief editor Götz Kühnemund called Le Fol as a "surprise hit" and attests to the band that they are " good, compact and catchy rock songs writes have too much class to be ignored ." Kühnemund awarded 8.5 out of ten. Dario rated the album with eight points. Negative commented Nils Duke of online magazine musikreviews.de. Duke criticized that too much was placed on effects and alienation while singing and that was cemented the album with too much belang loose fill. He gave the album eight out of 15 points.

Le Fol debuted at number 22 in the Norwegian album charts. Up until the release of their third, self-titled studio album, the album sold over 10,000 times in Norway. Le Fol was nominated for the Spellemannprisen in the category of Metal. However, the prize went to the black metal band Mayhem Ordo Ad Chao for her album.
