Le Monde's 100 Books of the Century
The 100 books of the century are a list of books that have been assessed as the hundred best of the twentieth century. The list was drawn up in the spring of 1999, according to an opinion poll, which was conducted by the French retailer Fnac and the Paris newspaper Le Monde.
Were compiled from a Vorliste of 200 titles bookstores and journalists, selected 17,000 Frenchmen by replying the question " What books have remained in your memory? " ( " Quels livres sont dans votre mémoire rest? ").
The list of great novels mixed with poetry and plays and even comic books. The first fifty works were the subject of an essay by Frédéric Beigbeder, Dernier inventaire avant liquidation, in which he has made in particular to the French character of the list.
