Leeton (New South Wales)

Leeton ( 6,828 inhabitants) is a town in the Riverina, in the state of New South Wales in Australia, 580 km west of Sydney and 450 kilometers north of Melbourne. The city is the administrative center of the Leeton Shire.

Leeton is situated in the center of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area ( Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, MIA), one of the most productive agricultural areas of Australia, in the particularly citrus fruits, apricots, wine, rice and wheat are grown.

The city is headquarters of SunRice, the largest rice trading company in Australia.

Leetons floor plan with arranged in concentric circles streets was designed by the American architect Walter Burley Griffin, as well as the capital Canberra and the neighboring town of Griffith. 1912, the first public building (water tower, post) were built for the first consisting of tents settlement. The official foundation took place in 1913 with the launch of the sale of building land.
