Leijn Loevesijn

Leijn Loevesijn ( born January 2, 1949 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch former racing cyclist.

Leijn Loevesijn came from a family with three children. Within a year, his brother, his mother and his father died. His father is said to have asked the Dutch Cyclists January Derksen shortly before his death, to take care of his son. Derksen was his trainer and manager.

1968 won Leijn Loevesijn a silver medal in the tandem race ( Jan Jansen ) at the Olympic Games in Mexico City. The following year, Loevesijn stepped over to the professionals. Eight times, from 1969 to 1976, he was in consequence Dutch champion in the sprint.

1971 Loevesijn crowned his career with the world champion title in the sprint of the professionals, the first Dutch sprint world champion since 1957, when Derksen won the title. Only in 2004 was able to repeat this success with Theo Bos a Dutchman. In 1976, Loevesijn back from active cycling.

Leijn Loevesijn now works for the municipality of Amsterdam. He has remained in cycling as derny driver and coach faithful.
