The Lelystad Airport ( IATA: LEY, ICAO code: EHLE ) is the airport of the city of Lelystad. It is located in the province of Flevoland in the Netherlands. The Schiphol Group is the owner.

Future

There is already a long time plans to expand the airport to a regional or even international airport. The operator of the airport Schiphol hopes thereby to displacement of low cost airlines and charter companies and thus to reducing the congestion of the airport Schiphol. As the name of Rembrandt International Airport has been proposed. Following an extension of the runways of the capacity with regards to handling one million passengers per year and the creation of new jobs is sought.

Slopes

Lelystad Airport currently has two slopes:

  • 05 /23: 1250 meters long (Planning extension to 2100 meters)
  • 05/ 23: 430 meters long ( for grass ultralights )

Destinations

Lelystad Airport is the largest airport for smaller aircraft in the Netherlands. There are regular flights to the island of Texel and several flight schools, of which the Martinair is the best known. Martinair has his catering in Lelystad ( Marfo ). At Lelystad Airport and the importer of Diamond Aircraft is stationed for the Benelux countries.

Aviation Museum

Since 2003, the National Aviodrome is for reasons of space no longer in Schiphol, but in Lelystad. Caused a stir there with the transportation of dismantled KLM Jumbo Boeing 747- 206BM (SUD ) over water and land routes from Amsterdam airport to the museum.

In addition, the museum is a replica of a former terminal building of the airport Schiphol was built. The model is from 1928.
