Lennox Sharpe

Lennox " Boogsie " Sharpe ( born October 28, 1953 in Port of Spain, Trinidad ) is a successful composer, arranger and musician on the steel pan.

Life

Lennox Sharpe grew up in Woodbrook, a suburb of Port of Spain. He played in the Invaders Steel Orchestra, and later in the Steel Band Star lift. In 1972 he founded the Steel Band Phase II Pan Groove, which is considered one of the best steel bands of Trinidad.

In 1987 he the Hummingbird Medal ( silver) was awarded. He also received an honorary doctorate from the University of the West Indies. In addition, Sharpe is since 2000 official cultural ambassador of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
