Leonard Mucheru Maina

Leonard Mucheru Maina ( born June 13, 1978 at Nyandarua District, Central Province ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner, who at times as Mushir Salem Jawher (Arabic مشير سالم جوهر Mushir Salim Dschawhir, DMG Musir Sālim Ǧawhir ) competed for Bahrain.

At the World Cross Country Championships 2000 Maina Fourth on the short haul. He accepted the autumn of 2003, like many other East African athletes an offer to start for Bahrain, and took the occasion of the change of citizenship to an Arabic name. At the Asian Games in 2006 he won the silver medal in the 5,000 -meter run. His personal best over this distance ( 12:59,79 min) he set in 2005.

His first start in a marathon in January 2007 triggered political entanglements. Jawher was the first athlete from an Arab country at the Tiberias Marathon in Israel and won in 2:13:13 h In Bahrain, this start was disapproved and the athletes extorted a public apology.
