Leptodactylidae

Leptodactylus gracilis

The Leptodactylidae i.e.S. are a neuweltlich widespread family of frogs and toads ( Anura ). Until recently, this has been taken much further. This was, however, a paraphyletic Sammeltaxon, known in English under the name Südfrösche or Pfeiffrösche. Most of these formerly well over 1000 species after extensive revisions now classified in other families (see Ceratophryidae, Cycloramphidae, Eleutherodactylidae, Craugastoridae ).

The remaining four to six genera of Leptodactylidae ieS occur with about 100 species from the extreme southern Texas to southern Brazil. The most species-rich genus are by far the Real Pfeiffrösche ( Leptodactylus ). Their representatives often have loud, whistling calls. The propagation of the spawn is laid in a self- Fabricated foam nest. This happens mostly in a body of water or near water, the Brazilian marble Pfeiffrosch ( Adenomera marmorata, Syn Leptodactylus marmoratus ), the foam nest in the ground, however buried, where the tadpoles undergo their entire development.
