Les Déserts

Les Deserts is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Les Deserts, located at about 1000 m above sea level. M., about 10 km northeast of the town of Chambery (air line). The scattered settlement municipality extends to the northwest of the Savoie département, in the southwestern part of the massif of the Wallows, in the headwaters of the Leysse, between the heights of Mont Revard in the West and in the East Mont Margériaz.

The area of ​​33.59 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the massif of the Wallows. The central part is occupied by the high valley of the Leysse ( tributary of Lac du Bourget ), which drains the area to the south. Neighboring municipalities of Les Deserts are Montcel, Saint- Offenge -Dessus and Saint -François- de-Sales in the north, Le Noyer and Aillon -le- Jeune in the east, Thoiry and Saint -Jean- d'Arvey in the south and Verel - Pragondran, Drumettaz Clara Fund, Mouxy and Pugny - Chatenod in the West.

History

Les Deserts is first mentioned in 1356 under the name Ecclesia de Deserto; Ecclesia Sancti Michaelis 1414 is de Desertis handed. The place name comes from the Latin word Desertus ( left uninhabited, lonely ) back.

Attractions

The village church of Les Deserts built in the 19th century. In La Féclaz the chapel Notre- Dame-des- Neiges ( 20th century); another chapel is located in Les Droux. On the top of Nivolet is a monumental cross.

Population

With 814 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Les Deserts one of the small communities of the department of Savoie. After the population was declining in the first half of the 20th century, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure
