Letov Å -18

The aircraft Letov Š -18 is a single-engine, two-seat biplane, which was developed in Czechoslovakia as a training aircraft.

History

The first flight of the machine took place in 1925. The design came from Alois Smolik. The machine was quite successful and sold well to private owners and also to flying clubs. In addition to the basic variant, there was also the type Š -118, the NZ 85 (63 kW) equipped with a Walter. Some machines have been exported to Bulgaria. They were used in the years 1925-1930 by the Czechoslovak Air Force as a beginner trainer aircraft.

A complete redesign of the cell led to the Š -218, whose hull was designed as a steel tube construction. The first flight of this with a Walter NZ -120 ( 88 kW) equipped type took place in 1926.

In the year 1930/31 ten machines of the type Š -218 were exported to Finland. Have a top speed of 154 km / h - There was licensed a further series of 29 machines built, - equipped with a 110 kW payable Bramo radial engine.

Construction

The chassis was rigid and had a tail skid. The original version had a wooden hull. The wings were braced braced with N- stems.
