Liberal Democratic Party (Romania)

The Liberal Democrat Partidul ( German Liberal Democratic Party) was only about a year existing and geographically in the center-right party in Romania spectrum.

It was created in December 2006 as a breakaway from the ruling Liberal Partidul Naţional under Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tăriceanu. Among its members were 19 of the 332 deputies in the Romanian Chamber of Deputies and 8 of 137 senators. It was chaired by the former Prime Minister Theodor Stolojan.

The party was - also due to personal differences - in fundamental opposition to Popescu Tăriceanu government and supported the president Traian Basescu.

In December 2007, the Liberal Democrat Partidul merged with Partidul Democrat ( Democratic Party) under Emil Boc to Partidul Democrat Liberal ( Liberal Democratic Party).
