Liebvillers

Liebvillers is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Liebvillers is located at 501 m, 3 km northwest of Saint- Hippolyte and about 19 km south of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, Doubs Valley in a south to open towards the trough, which is dug into the high plateau of Lomont.

The area of ​​3.03 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of Liebvillers, which is a maximum of one kilometer wide approximately 1.5 km long and at the top of the valley slopes. The area is drained by the village brook south to the Doubs. To the west, north and east of the trough is flanked by steep slopes, crowned at the top by the rocks of a rugged limestone layer. The parish boundary runs mostly above the escarpment. In the West, the projection of Fontenotte also belongs to the municipality. Another prominent in the landscape limestone layer highlighted in the south, the step which leads on to the more than 100 m deeper Doubs Valley. The Doubs flows here through a narrow valley from east to west and has a maximum of 300 m wide, flat Talniederung trained. Along the river runs the southern border.

To Liebvillers the settlement include NADAM ( 369 m) in the Doubs Valley and various individual courtyards. Neighboring communities of Liebvillers are Montécheroux in the north, Saint- Hippolyte in the east, the south and Bief Noire Fontaine in the West.

History

In the caves of the limestone cliffs above the village traces of human presence were discovered in the Palaeolithic period. The first mention in writing Liebvillers in 1136 under the name Libunwiller in a deed of Lucelle Abbey. Subsequently, the names Libunvillar and Lebonvillar ( 1139 ) published, Libovilare ( 1179 ), Liboviler ( 1187 ), Libunvilar ( 1234), Liebvillers (first in 1242 ), Liebvillaire ( 1702) and Love Villers ( 1765 ). The monastery Lucelle sold Liebvillers 1242 to the Lords of Neuchâtel. Henceforth, the village belonged to the reign Clémont. This rule was from 1506 under the suzerainty of the principality of Montbéliard, shared his fate, and came in 1748 definitely under French administration. During the Thirty Years' War Liebvillers was severely affected. In the 19th century, the water power of the Doubs was used for the operation of forging. With the opening of the railway line from Montbéliard to Saint- Hippolyte in the year 1886 (1969 finally shut down ) the industrial estate NADAM was connected to the railway network. Since 1931 located in the Doubs Valley on the communal land a hydroelectric power plant, the Electricité de France and belongs to the water of the weir at Gros Bois (municipality Soulce - Cernay ) is fed.

Landmark of the village that does not have its own church, are a freedom oak and a natural bridge ( Pont naturel du Bisontin ).

Population

With 151 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Liebvillers one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1926 673 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Liebvillers was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, some arable and fruit ) embossed village. Along the Doubs settled early trade down, which was dependent on hydropower. Today there are only a few establishments in the local small business sector. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The community is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the secondary road D437 which leads from Montbeliard by the Doubs Valley after Maîche. Further road links exist with Montécheroux and Noire Fontaine.
