Light Up (puzzle)

Lighting (Japanese:美术馆Bijutsukan, literally Gallery, English Light Up ) is a mystery, which was first published by the Japanese magazine Nikoli in 2001. Nikoli published the first magazine similar games like Sudoku or Kakuro and helped them as generally accepted worldwide. The game has a structural similarity to the Windows computer game Minesweeper.

Regulate

Lighting is played on a square grid. In the task, some squares are black, others are white. Some black squares are marked with numbers from 0 to 4. On the white squares bulbs should be placed so that the following rules are observed:

  • The numbers on the black squares indicate how many bulbs are on white squares that are adjacent via an edge to this black box.
  • Each white box is illuminated by at least one light bulb. A lit light bulb horizontally and vertically up to a black box or to the edge of the playing field.
  • Filament lamps shall not mutually illuminate.
