Liminka

Liminka [ limiŋkɑ ] (Swedish Limingo ) is a municipality in the north of Finland. It is located about 30 km south of the city of Oulu in Northern Ostrobothnia landscape. Liminka is exclusively Finnish speakers.

Overview

The settlement areas are next to the Kirchdorf Liminka the places Alatemmes and Tupos. In addition there are the villages of the municipality of Heini Järvi, Hirvineva, Kedonperä, Ketunmaa, Kiiskilänkylä, Lapinkangas, Liminka, Rantakylä, Ritokorpi, Selkämaa, Tikkaperä and Virkkula.

The village was built around 1300 and Liminka is one of the oldest settlements in the Finnish to the early modern era populated by semi-nomadic living seed region. As is common in northern Finland, the Centre Party is in Liminka the dominant political force.
