Linda Fratianne

Linda Sue Fratianne ( born August 2, 1960 in Los Angeles ) is a former American figure skater who started in a single run. It is the world champion of 1977 and 1979.

Fratianne is the daughter of former Supreme Court Justice in California, Robert Fratianne and his wife Virginia. Her parents were divorced.

Fratianne was trained throughout her career by Frank Carroll. In 1976 she was runner-up at the national championships behind Dorothy Hamill. There, she managed to be the first woman to show two different triple jumps, toe loop and Salchow. That same year she played her first world championship and their first Olympic Games. There she was immediately Fifth, or Eighth. Already in the following year Fratianne won as the reigning U.S. champion, despite the fall in the triple Salchow, the gold medal at the World Championships in Tokyo, before the favored Anett Pötzsch from the GDR and Dagmar Lurz from Germany. With Fratiannes victory began a lasting until 1980 rivalry between her and Pötzsch. In the 1978 World Cup in Ottawa to Pötzsch retaliated and referred Fratianne to second place. A year later, the tide turned again at the World Championships in Vienna. Fratianne was the second time World Champion before Pötzsch. In Olympic 1980 Fratianne became the fourth consecutive national champion. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid Fratianne Pötzsch subject, however, and at the World Championships in Dortmund, it was only enough for the bronze medal behind Pötzsch and Lurz. Then she ended her amateur career.

Fratianne had its strength especially in the freestyle, but was also a good runner duty. In the duty it was mostly behind Pötzsch and Lurz, whereas she won the short program and the long program mostly. She had a jump talent that enabled her to have triple jumps look easy. In addition to their workflows skills she was known for her costumes.

During her professional career Fratianne ran ten years for Ice Follies and Disney on Ice.

From 1988 to 2001 she was married to the skier Nick Maricich, with whom she has a daughter, born in 1991. She lives and trains in Sun Valley, Idaho.
