Lintula Holy Trinity Convent

The monastery Lintula is the only Orthodox Convent in Finland. It is located in the municipality Heinavesi in southeastern Finland.

History

It was founded in 1895 in Kivennappa on the Karelian Isthmus, which was then part of Finland and Russia today. During the Winter War in 1939, the nuns fled before the Russian armed forces into spared from the war zone in Finland. 1946, to the Convention in Heinavesi, found a new monastery close to the men's monastery Uusi Valamo. In 1973 the new church was consecrated, dedicated as the old location of the Holy Trinity.

Economy

The monastery has Kerzenmanufaktur. The annually around 25,000 pilgrims and tourists contribute to the income. The originally part farm, however, was abandoned.
