The monastery Uusi Valamo (ie " New Valaam ") is the only Orthodox monastery in Finland. It is located in the eastern Finnish countryside Savo on the northern outskirts of the village near the road Heinavesi 23 Varkaus Joensuu.
History
Originally, the monastery on the island of Valaam group (Finnish Valamo ) was located in the Lake Ladoga. The origins of the Russian monastery date back to the 8th century, reliable sources, there are from the 12th century. It was founded by the Saints Sergei and Herman.
