Linux Libertine

Linux Libertine is a free font for computer (available under the GPL, optionally also the SIL Open Font License) and part of the Libertine Open Fonts project. Its aim is to design free fonts, to provide users with alternatives to proprietary fonts such as Times New Roman. Linux Libertine is developed with the free editor FontForge.

Style

Linux Libertine is a proportional serif font with the character of a script of the 19th century. Your font was however developed from scratch and adapted to today's requirements. Linux Libertine covers more than 2000 characters in Unicode encoding and therefore supports many different languages ​​of the Western character sets Latin, Greek, Cyrillic and Hebrew. Furthermore, it offers numerous ligatures ( like ff, fi, dd, ch, ... ) and performs special characters such as the International Phonetic spelling IPA, arrows, Fleurons, Roman numerals and old style figures, true small caps. The use of OpenType allows automatic positioning and replacement of typographic special cases, such as with kerning, ligatures and real breakthroughs.

A special feature is included "new" Eszett since version 2.6 also.

The writings are on the project page in the source code as well as in OpenType and TrueType format and are available in the following font styles, each containing caps and the above special characters:

Linux Biolinum

For Linux Libertine family since March 2009 also includes a Organogrotesk, ie a sans serif with varying line thickness, which calls itself "Linux Biolinum ". The vertical metric is identical to that of Libertine, so that the two types well together.

The Linux Biolinum is intended as a display typeface and available in the following font styles:

Furthermore, there is both a normal and an italic keyboard variant in which the individual characters are displayed as keys. Modifier keys such as Ctrl or tab can be represented by ligatures.
