Linzer Klangwolke

The Linz Cloud of Sound is a musical event outdoors, each year in early September will take place in the Austrian city of Linz Danube Park since 1979. For this purpose, in the Danube Park in front of the Bruckner House, mounted between the Nibelungen and railway bridge, speakers with a total output of 250,000 watts on cranes.

Content

The sound cloud consists of three events from open-air concerts of modern music, some of which are supplemented by visualizations:

• It starts with the visualized sound cloud: Modern music, mostly commissioned works will be accompanied with fireworks, lasers, video projections, ships, cranes, balloons etc.. The visualized Sound Cloud is the biggest crowd puller with about 100,000 viewers and listeners. While this format initially the accompaniment of music through visual elements in the foreground provided were later introduced theatrical elements that moved recently in favor of the performance of fireworks in the background.
• The classic sound cloud, simultaneously the opening concert of the Bruckner Festival, takes place without visualization.
• The children Klangwolke as afternoon event since 1998 tells musical stories for younger listeners.

On September 18, 1979 with Anton Bruckner's Eighth Symphony was given a sound cloud over Linz and thus the Ars Electronica Festival for Art, Technology and Society opened for the first time. Artistic Conception and was lead by the Munich composer Walter Haupt. At that time, the music still came from a previously produced studio band, while it is transmitted since 1980, live from the Bruckner House.

The Linz Cloud of Sound organized by the ORF Upper Austria and the Bruckner Linz. Admission is free. In developing the program, the New Year's fireworks 2008 opening of the Capital of Culture year Linz09 was staged with the specially composed Raketensinfonie.

From 2013 onwards, the event is sponsored by voestalpine and therefore bears the name voestalpine clouds of sound.
