The list of castles and fortresses in Turkey leads to a selection of castles and fortresses in Turkey, with the exception of the Istanbul province. The local buildings are included in the list of castles, forts and palaces in Istanbul.

Historical Overview

The present-day Turkey area is inhabited by numerous peoples and kingdoms ruled or been through it, who left fortresses and rulers seats. The same applies to Armenians and Seljuks, who arrived about the same time to Anatolia, as well as their successors, the Ottomans. In this time also ruler seats, whose main purpose was not to defend, but representation, to palatial palaces.

Sorting in the builder column comes not in alphabetical order by the name, but possible chronologically into eras.
