List of cities, towns and villages in the Maldives

The list of places in the Maldives provides an overview of the development of the population of the larger towns of the South Asian country Maldives.

By far the largest resort in the Maldives is Malé, with a population of 92 555 (as of March 25, 2006 ). Thus, about a third of the country's population is concentrated in the Maldivian capital.

The following table contains the most important places in the country and the results of censuses ( VZ ) March 25, 1995 31 March 2000 and 25 March 2006. Listed is also the parent administrative unit ( district ) to which the community belongs. The capital Malé is managed by the government and does not belong to the district. The population figures refer to the community in its political boundaries, without politically independent suburbs.
