List of honorary citizens of Munich
The municipal authorities of the city of Munich was granted in 1818 by the municipality edict the right people who have made an outstanding contribution to a great extent for the welfare of the city to appoint honorary citizens. Since then, this dignity was 49 people to part. The liabilities relating to the Third Reich honorary citizenships by Paul von Hindenburg, Franz Ritter von Epp Franz Xaver Schwarz, Adolf Hitler and Hermann Goering in 1946 but subsequently withdrawn.
The freeman of the city of Munich is connected neither to the right nor special with it special duties.
About the ceremony, the General Assembly of the City Council decides in closed session. With the honorary citizenship of each person can be awarded regardless of whether she lives in Munich. A posthumous award is excluded.
