List of peaks by prominence

The list of mountains by prominence of leading the world's most prominent hundred mountains.

The Vertical separation or prominence of a summit is the difference from his height and the highest Einschartung (reference notch ) to which you have at least descend to reach a higher peak. Artificial terrain changes, such as the Suez or Panama Canal are not considered. This makes it next to the dominance of an objective measure of the independence of a summit.

In addition to the relevant reference Einschartung two mountains are given, unless it is the highest mountain in a continent or an island:

  • The Prominence master is the reference notch along the ridge curve closest prominent and higher peaks, which can be reached via this saddle without having to descend deeper.
  • The Parent Iceland is the highest peak that can be reached starting from the respective reference notch on a rising path in each point. He is the highest mountain beyond the reference notch, whose own reference notch is lower than that of the observed peak.
