List of postal codes in Germany

The list of postcode regions in Germany gives an overview of the used since 1941 postcode. The historical and systematic development of the post signage in Germany is located in the item code ( Germany ).

The German Reich Postal led from 1941 a double-digit system. This was continued by the Allied occupying powers and was only replaced in the 1960s by two four -digit postal code systems of the German Federal Post and Deutsche Post of the GDR. On 1 July 1993, the current five-digit postal code system has been introduced.

The first digit of the five digit zip code designates the zone (and thus the commercial airport from which the mail is delivered ), the second digit of the region ( the first two digits therefore often called postal region or routing region, mostly in the counterclockwise direction from the central town of continuously - starting in south). Double-digit system 1941-1945

While the postal codes from 1941 initially applied only to parcels and packages, they were 1944 for normal mail delivery of letters and postcards binding.   • 3 has been split into 3a, 3b
  • 10 is divided into 10a and 10b
  • 15 is divided into 15a and 15b
  • 18 has been completely replaced by the 22b
  • 19 is divided into 19a and 19b
  • 20 is divided into 20a and 20b
  • 22a was divided into 22a and 22c
  • 24 is divided into 24a and 24b

Four-digit systems of West and East 1961/1965 bis 1993

The following table shows a comparison of the two four-digit postal code systems of the German Federal Post and Deutsche Post of the GDR, which were introduced in the first half of the 1960s.
