List of universities in Turkey

The list of universities in Turkey is made up of 103 national universities, 66 foundation universities and four universities of the Turkish armed forces, thus there are a total of 173 universities in Turkey. All universities are under the supervision and management of the Yükseköğretim Kurulu ( University Council, YOK ). The oldest university in the country, the University of Istanbul, it was established one day after the conquest of Constantinople on May 30, 1453 by Sultan Mehmed II. However, its roots can be traced according to the historian Richard honey back to 1 March 1321.
