List of World Heritage Sites in Austria

Heritage in Austria, declared by the various conventions of UNESCO as Patrimony of Humanity. National contact point is the Austrian Commission for UNESCO.

World Heritage Sites

In Austria there are 9 World Heritage Sites (as of 2013). Three are cultural landscapes ( Lake Neusiedl, Hallstatt -Dachstein, Wachau ), three are Urban Landscapes ( old towns Salzburg, Graz, Vienna) two a building ( Bau-/Gartenbaudenkmal Schönbrunn and technical heritage Semmering Railway ), and one archaeological sites ( Pile Dwellings around the Alps) - they are all cultural, not recognized as a natural heritage.

The first World Heritage Site was reported in 1996.

World Soundtrack Awards

The UNESCO Memory of Austria consists of 12 entries (as of 2013). 7 are collections ( Papyrus Collection, Gothic Baurisse, Corvina, Phonogram Archive, Schubert, Brahms Collection, Schoenberg estate ), 5 single objects ( Dioscorides, conference proceedings 1815, Atlas Blaeu - Van der Hem, Tabula Peutingeriana, Mainzer Psalter ).

The first document heritage has been recognized in 1997.

Intangible Cultural Heritage

The list of intangible cultural heritage includes 52 entries (as of 2013). Of these, six found throughout Austria (pharmacy - house specialties, falconry, storytelling, folk dance, Silent Night - Christmas, charcoal ), the rest in each neighborhood of the provinces. 7 are in the field of Oral tradition Performing Arts 5, 24 Social practices, rituals and festive events, knowledge and practices 6 in dealing with the nature and 9 from the field craft techniques.

The first intangible heritage has been recognized in 2010, and so far only includes the national list, entries in the international list ( Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity ) Austria has in the meantime two. During the seventh session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held from 3 - 7th December 2012 took place in Paris, the Imst Schemenlaufen and falconry were included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
