Dwarf beach runners (Calidris minuta )

The sparrow big dwarf beach runners (Calidris minuta ) is a monotypic species of the family of the Waders ( Scolopacidae ) and is one of the world's smallest waders. It breeds in northern Eurasia. In Central Europe it is observed both on the North Sea coast and inland during migration periods regularly.

Appearance

The plumage of the bird has a rusty red top with fine black dashes on the head and chest. The underside is white. The legs are black ( the very similar Temminck has yellow legs). The simplicity dress is uniformly gray. The beach runner is 12-14 cm long and has a wingspan of 28-31 cm. It can be 20 to 30 g in weight.

Dissemination

The migratory bird breeds in northern Scandinavia and in the Siberian tundra. The distribution focuses on the Taymyr Peninsula. The dwarf beach runner is a long-distance migrant. The winter is spent in the Mediterranean, the Near East and in Central and South Africa. The largest number of wintering in Africa. In low levels, there are also wintering birds on the North Sea. Habitat

The dwarf beach runner breeds in moist places or on the coast of the Arctic and Subarctic. He usually stays in the vicinity of freshwater ponds. While the train and in the winter it keeps preferably on non-vegetated mud, sand and mud flats on the coast and on inland waters. He sometimes also uses small bodies of water.

Mating and breeding
