The National Park Llanganates is a nature reserve in Ecuador.

The park is located in the province of Napo about 50 km southwest of the provincial capital of Tena. The name " Llanganates " means in the Quechua language " Beautiful Mountain " and refers to the 4571 m high Cerro Hermoso (Spanish: " Beautiful Mountain " ), the highest point of the park. The National Park covers an area of ​​about 200,000 ha several different climatic zones altitude 602-4571 m above sea level. The Biodiversity in the park is high.

The park is also famous by the legend of a hidden Inca gold treasure of Atahualpa.

Ecology

The park has various ecological zones overlap. The western area is not overlooked and attributed to the Páramo. There are lonely, deserted landscapes with high peaks and deep valleys and forms the habitat for vicuna, llamas and alpacas. The eastern area lies on the eastern slopes of the Andes, bordering the rainforests of the Amazon. Here flourish species-rich mountain forests. This area is inaccessible due to its slopes and the numerous mountain streams.

Fauna and Flora

In the park about 800 plant species occur. Among the rare and protected animals in the park include puma, jaguar, tapir, ocelot, several species of monkeys, capybara, spectacled, weasels, foxes, and the Andean condor, the toucan different parrot species and the Andean Cock Of The Rock.
