Lock and Dam No. 14

Lock and Dam No. 14 ( lock and dam No. 14) is one of 29 dams that enable navigation on the upper Mississippi. Built in 1921-1940 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers combined building is located approximately six kilometers down from Le Claire, Iowa. On the opposite left bank Hampton is located in Illinois. In 2004, the Lock and Dam No. was. 14 Historic District was added to the NRHP.

Barrage

To barrage includes a stone dam on the Illinois side, and a 409.3 m long variable part, which consists of a segment 13teiligen weir and four jam rolls.

In a first stage, a dam height of six feet (1.80 m) was achieved between 1921 and 1924. In a second stage, the dam height to nine feet (2.70 m) has been extended. The purpose of the weir is not in the first line of flood protection, but the damming of the Mississippi for navigation.

Lock

The lock consists of two chambers. The main chamber is 182.9 m long and 33.5 m wide. This means that large thrust associations must be coupled apart. The decoupled Light on ropes in the large lock chamber are drawn while the push boat is funneled through the second chamber.
