Loei

Province

Loei ( Thai เลย ) is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง เลย ) in the Thai province of Loei. It is the capital of the province of Loei and the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Loei.

Geography

The Loei Province is located in the western part of the northeast region of Thailand, Isan. The city of Loei is located in the mountainous region of Dong Phaya Yen, about 50 kilometers south of the border with Laos and 520 kilometers north of Bangkok.

An important river of the district is Maenam Loei ( แม่น้ำ เลย - Loei River ).

The town has 20,977 inhabitants Loei (as of 2012).

Economic importance and

Loei is a modest economic center on the border with Laos.

In addition to agriculture (cotton) copper ore, manganese ore and other ores are mined.

History

The area around Loei was in its history due to its rather remote location, not as hotly contested as the northern provinces, where exfoliated Burma, Laos and Thailand.

1853 have been made (Rama IV ), initial attempts at controlled development of the area under King Mongkut, was made to Loei city. 1907 then the Loei province was proclaimed.
