London Elektricity

London Elektricity is the name of a British musical project. It is known primarily as a live act for Drum and Bass, however, can be found in his music, influences of jazz, funk, soul and breakbeats.

History

London Elektricity was the duo Tony Colman originally from and Chris Goss, was established in 1996. Colman and Goss are also considered as the founder of the record label Hospital Records, under whose contract also London Elektricity is.

In 1999 they released their debut album Pull the Plug on the label Hospital Records. Although you will find on this album Posts by studio musicians who have collaborated with bass, horns, electric guitar, flutes, strings, and jazz singer Liane Carroll was involved in two tracks as a singer, the LP was essentially a studio album by the producer and DJ duo Colman and Goss.

In 2002, Chris Goss withdrew to focus on the management of Hospital Records. This London Elektricity was a solo project of Tony Colman. The second album Billion Dollar Gravy was released in 2003. During the work on the album, formed the studio musicians involved in a band. Colman decided to let this occur as a live act. The line-up was next to Colman among others, Andy Waterworth, Landslide, MC Wreck, Jungle Drummer, Liane Carroll and Robert Owens. In 2004, these released a DVD entitled London Elektricity: Live Gravy.

In 2005, the third studio album Power Ballads, whose line-up consisted of the same members of the band appeared. London Elektricity announced on 2 December 2005, on the Pressure ( Drum and Bass Event, University of Warwick ), that there are no plans for future live performances existed. In support of this announcement London Elektricity was also supported by founding member Chris Goss, who appeared on the stage. Since 2006, Tony Colman London Elektricity pursued as a solo project, under whose name he hangs up Drum and Bass and occurs as a DJ. Liane Carroll was awarded the 2005 Best of Jazz Award at the BBC Jazz Awards and has since pursued a successful career as a solo jazz singer. Since 2007, Ben Nguyen is the band on the mixer.

Tony Colman moderates the Hospital Records podcast, produced by Matt Riley at Hospital HQ. The podcast productions released by Hospital Records. It also includes the podcast Drum and Bass music from around the world. The Hospital Records Podcast was awarded ' Best Podcast ' at the BT Digital Music Awards. Each show of the podcast has about 30,000 downloads. Regularly occur in the podcast also on artists that are at Hospital Records, eg Logistics.

In 2007, London Elektricity won the Xtra Bass Award for best live act, although two years no appearance had taken place more in common with the band.

In September 2008 appeared the fourth London Elektricity Syncopated City album. The month before, is especially distinguished by his Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 London Elektricity is one of several solo artists of the Hospital labels that are working on an album which will be released in 2010.

Influences

On his MySpace page, Tony Coleman leads among other things Talking Heads, Fela Kuti, Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, Led Zeppelin as influences. Music styles like jazz, soul, Latin, dub, rock and punk are represented in the songs of London Elektricity. Examples are "Rewind ", " Attack Ships on Fire ", "South Eastern Dream", "Do You Believe" (and its dub version, " Dub You Believe "), " Main Ingredient ", " Remember the Future", "Round the Corner " and " Song in the Key of Knife " ( feature with Acoustic bass line ).

London Elektricity was mainly on albums such as Medical History and compilations such as Out Patients, known for its musical experimentation with other genres, including Acid jazz and breakbeats. Well-known songs are, for example, Incurable, Round the Corner ( Acid Jazz Version), Theme From the Land Sanction, or The Land Time Forgot did.

Other projects

London Elektricity has created side projects, which are usually, occasionally released on Hospital Records also on other labels. The best known of these are the acid jazz groups, Izit, House music, and Future Homo Sapiens. Both Tony Colman, Chris Goss and are part of the Peter Nice Trio and Dwarf Electro.
