Loosduinen

Loosduinen is a district of The Hague, with around 47,500 inhabitants.

History

The first mention of the town dates back to 1186 when the future Count Dietrich VII (Dirk VII ) of Holland Aleida of Cleves in a "Villa Losdun " married. In the first half of the 13th century the Counts of Holland could build a monastery here, which was repealed in 1572. After 1276 Loosduinen became a place of pilgrimage since the Countess Margaret of Henneberg said to have born in the year 364 or 365 children in the "Miracle of Loosduinen ".

From 1811 to 1923 Loosduinen was a separate municipality, after one of The Hague.

The town's name derives from the fact that the original village was located in a dune area, which was located by the silting up inland - the dunes no longer played a role in protection from the North Sea and were therefore " loze Duine " (Eng. wrong dunes).
